a plethora of live music

lots of good concerts lately, bowling for soup a month ago, and this past weekend i caught erasure and the shins. separately of course. the opener for erasure, elkland, was surprisingly good. kind of like a robert smith sounding synth pop band. i recommend checking them out if that sounds even remotely appealing. and yes, erasure is still together and making music. its surprising how a lot of their songs were familiar. definitely a lot more than i thought i knew. i blame it all on vh1 and their pop culture trivia shows... oh wait, i guess that would be all of their programming. as for the shins concert, it was a rawkin good time, although their opener wasnt that impressive. who are the shins, you ask (along with almost everyone else i told about the concert)? the only way i knew how to point them out was to mention garden state (if you saw it, they are the band that natalie portman and zach braff talk about in the doctors office when they first meet) i found that citysearch has much better description of them:

Simultaneously evoking late-'60s psychedelia and the faintly skewed indie-rock of Pavement or Modest Mouse

that sounds about right. anyway, it looks like that will be it for live music for a while (sigh) although better than ezra is coming in june (although it looks like theyre on tour to promote their 'best of' album... is it me, or does that sound kind of silly?) and of course, im sure there will be a summer edition of 'three floors of ska' at some point. at least i hope so. rawk on.

malik the ninja mouse - "the aftermath"

months later, after the dust and chaos has settled, one can only imagine what events had unfolded in that three bedroom apartment downtown. the glue traps untouched, gathering dust on them like a sublte 'fuck you' from the ninja mouse. the three idiots somehow managed to survived the onslaught, although its easy to tell they will never be the same. gamer has turned to strictly first-person shooters to alleviate the tension that mounts in his fragile mind. pasty seems, as unbelievable as it sounds, even pastier, almost translucent even. this is probably partly due to the limited amounts of food he's even to stomach, which now only consists of mac 'n' cheese and hummus. and twig... you wouldn't even want to know. did malik survive? is the ninja mouse's rotting carcass somewhere in the apartment? or did he feel that his job had been accomplished? and leaving these three simpletons to live as mercy upon inferior beings? we may never know...

THE END?

there was u2 and blondie and music still on mtv

rawkin bowling for soup concert last night at irving plaza. even the openers, riddlin' kids and american hi-fi, werent too bad. my ears are still ringing, which is good i guess, since its now easier to tune out the office chatter. the sad part about the concert is that id say at least 50% of the people there were still in high school. that actually made me feel old. god knows how it made ry feel, ba-zing! i bet most of those kids dont even understand half of the references in BFS's song '1985'. blondie? whitesnake? BFS even did a cover of bon jovi's 'you give love a bad name'. some of the kids were clueless as to what song they were playing. at least the parents who came to watch over their kids got to rawk out to something. anyway, till next time, be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes!
