fooled by turnstiles

i was in line to go through the turnstiles at the subway station by my office. it was one of those full body/revolving door type turnstiles where the visual prompt that tells you whether or not your card swipe was valid is in front of the turnstile. i.e. if you swipe your card and start walking towards the entryway before it registers, you wont be able to tell if it will let you by until you ram yourself into the locked turnstile. you would think most new yorkers would know to check and see if it says 'go' or not, but two of the 3 people in front of me did the following:

1) look at the screen as it says 'go' for the person in front of them
2) swipe their card
3) before theyre done swiping, start walking toward the turnstile
4) unbeknownst to them, the screen says 'swipe again' and they smack themselves into the bars
5) repeat steps 2-4 until they felt retarded
6) swipe their card while waiting to see the 'go'
7) finally get to the platform.

really, people?

on a related topic, i also noticed a woman repeatedly swiping (and mindful of the screen saying 'swipe again') and getting nowhere. someone else offered to try, takes her card, and on first try gets her in. i think this is a cruel game devised by the MTA to entertain the employees that work at the stations.

for the first post in months, pretty lame i know.
