the dc weekend

so i really should have posted this 2 weeks ago, so the details wont be as fresh as they would have been. being invited to sek's wedding, but gf being unable to go because of prior work commitments, i invited m as my date. he came in friday night, as we were to leave taking the awesome new bus company (free wifi and outlets for your laptop) boltbus.com early the next morning. so m, purple onesie, and i decide to go out for a drink. one of onesie's friends was at a karaoke bar, so we go, only to find the room uber-crowded so we head back to the bar to get drinks. on our way there we run into a girl, who at least i had assumed knew onesie by the way she came up to us, but as it turned out didnt, which made the whole encounter a bit weird. especially with the group hugs and her kissing onesie's head for luck. we escape to the bar, and after discussion and a drink or two, we guessed the scenario we just witnessed/partook was a combination of drunkenness, self loathing, and/or daddy issues. m and i finish our drinks and call it a night, while onesie attempts to reenter the karaoke room.

the next day, m and i head to msg, where the bolt bus is waiting nearby. as we're waiting to board the bus, i realize that due to packing for the trip drunk after returning home from the bar, i had forgotten to pack my dress shoes. shit. well, i dont have enough time to go back home to get them, so lets just pray that there's a shoestore near either where we get dropped off or the hotel or the wedding venue. we get on the bus, and its as glorious as we had hoped. brand new. no faint smell of urine here! outlets for (almost) every seat. and yes. wifi. not to mention, definitely a different clientele than the chinatown bus. the bus driver, as we're pulling out, gives us a basic spiel (similar to what airlines do) about safety, etc. and by then, we're up and running on our laptops. apparently there's a payless shoestore a block from where the bus drops us off, score! after 4 short hours of watching the west wing on dvd, we arrive. and lo and behold, there's the shoe store! now if only we're lucky enough to find black dress shoes in my size. huzzah! we do! in celebration we go across the street to grab a sandwich for lunch before we head down into the metro station. as we're eating we notice its starting to rain a little... oh well, at least we're near the station, only like 50 feet really. no worries. hm... why cant i see across the street anymore? oh, its because of how hard its raining. crap. we finish eating and run into the station. not too bad, just a little wet. we get out at the ballston stop. ok, the hotel is only 3 or 4 blocks... in the pouring rain. running from awning to awning, we get to the holiday inn completely soaked. ok, the room is under rc's name, so... wait, no rc in your computer, you say, mr. front desk man? uh... so i call him to confirm, no answer, crap. leave a message and wait. as we're waiting, i realize i also forgot to pack a tie. but crisis averted as m notice's that the hotel gift shop sells ties. i decide not to get the tie with the picture of the signing of the declaration of independence, and go for a simpler blue striped tie. ah! rc has left a vm saying that its under his wife's name (who, just for the sake of our weekend, decided not to take rc's last name, adding to the confusion at the front desk) but we finally check in, and start to change for the wedding... aw crap. my suit got wet! well, i guess ill just use the room's hairdryer to dry it off... almost done... oops... the hairdryer broke. dry enough i guess. rc arrives and changes, and we're off to the wedding!

we take the metro to dc, and start walking... we walk to the address sek gave for the wedding 2301 I St... nope. not there. wtf? did i write it down wrong? good thing m has web access on his phone... apparently the venue is at 2017 I St... classic sek :P we finally arrive, and find some of our old class of '28 crew. good food and good drink is had by all. ok, after party plans, drinks at the hotel! good times catching up w/everyone from back in the day, playing 'what ever happened to...' with our old dormmates and recalling past, some times embarrassing, hookup stories. good times. although having rc finish of the beer after making a huge dent in the bottle of cuervo might not have been the best idea. lets just say he got a little sick when we got back to our room. ah, like old times.

3 hours later, we're up for the 930 bon voyage 'brunch'. ok, first, i just have to say, 930 is not brunch. its punishment for people who partied after the wedding reception. m is pounding coffee, while rc is trying to keep his eyes open and keep food down. and in comes the happy couple. after a few quick toasts and a hello/goodbye with the newlyweds, m and i are off again. 4 hours of glorious free internet later, we're back in the city. i collapse (soon after forcing myself to eat a muffin i stole from the 'brunch') only to wake up a few hours later face down in a puddle of my own drool. as i said before. good times :)
