this weekend in music
so this weekend i was filled to my eyeballs in music, which i havent been lately. before this past friday, the last concert i went to was in early november (death cab at the msg theater... rawk!) so i was understandably jonesing for some live music. so i did something that i dont usually do, i got tickets to a show that i wasnt entirely thrilled about, it was mellow folk rock, which aint normally my cup of tea. but i had heard a couple of songs from the headliner, joshua radin, specifically 'winter' from an episode of scrubs (the one in the third season w/brendan fraser, who is a totally underrated actor, i think. i mean, cmon, who could pull of doing encino man and then turn around and do school ties and then do george of the jungle and then do gods and monsters, and do all of them well? i mean, as well as someone can, acting like a caveman or a tarzan like character. but i digress...) anyway, he does a pretty cool cover of yaz's 'only you' as well. schuyler fisk played right before joshua and even did a couple duets with him (making some people jealous that they missed out! ;P) and the first opener, ingrid michaelson, was a nice surprise. i usually expect the very first band of the night to be a sucky band... well, maybe not sucky, but definitely not up to par, usually a band that still needs to refine its craft. but ingrid had her shit together, even made witty banter with the crowd (and you know how much i love witty banter) so all in all it was a really good (i.e. better than expected) night.
you ever have those days where you just hang out with a bunch of other people and listen to music? thats basically what we did the next day. partially due to m celebrating his being old the previous night, we had ourselves a lazy saturday, making breakfast in the afternoon, taking turns plugging our ipods into the living room stereo and talk about stuff we'd been listening to. what a totally unproductive, but totally fulfilling afternoon...
oh, almost forgot... check out my first pick of 'fav bands of 2007' the provisionals. they only have a demo out so far, but i get the feeling that its only the beginning. they're so good that i cant stop listening to them. i heard them for the first time on friday, and they are already on my 'top 25 most played' automatic playlist on my ipod. do you realize how much ive had to have listened to them? i mean, 'snakes on a plane (bring it)' by cobra starship (i dont know, i just cant help it) took at least a week or two to break the top 25! ive even started trying to break down the basslines (which are awe-some!) so definitely check them out!

Fortunately, I have the inside scoop on The Provisionals. It turns out that the singer is a royal A-hole. If you want to hear some deep cuts check out Arms Akimbo "Sloppy Sessions" album.
But, seriously, you're too kind, Kimmie. I appreciate the compliments! I'll keep you updated on all of our new songs! We just set up a practice room in our garage!
yes, i am jealous...very much so...paperweight, such a pretty song. i'm just wondering how much longer you're going to rub my face in this...
:-P
