stick a fork in me

so ive gotten complaints from one of my readers (which probably represents 20-25% of you) that i havent posted in a while. that is mostly because pretty much nothing has happened to me that i would consider significant enough to blog about. but that has recently changed, so here we go...

so i just interviewed for and was offered a new job in my company, which may not seem that exciting, but the whole thing seemed like a weird giant conflict of interest for everyone involved... except me, of course. unfortunately, there doesnt seem to be any handbooks or online faqs about how to go about applying for an internal job posting. so before i decided to post for the job, i was doing some undercover recon on the new job. since i didnt want my current boss to get freaked about me jumping ship, especially since i hadnt decided to do so yet, i had to make sure he didnt know what was going on (not to mention everyone else in my team). so i set up time to meet w/the hiring director, who i already work with alot, one of his direct reports, and another director in the new team who i used to work with alot. and once i had decided to apply, it almost seemed like a done deal, as long as i didnt fuck up the interview with the new team's vp (which luckily i didnt)

so one of the main things that got me worried were my coworkers. office politics suck. i had already gotten in to trouble for only inviting a select few to my parties earlier on in my career at the company (i have now learned to invite everyone, including the people i dont particularly like, just so i dont get any shit at the office... besides, they never come anyway...) one of my current team members is also one of my friends, and undoubtedly will be getting all of the work i am currently in charge of once i leave. was i going to let the boss let everyone know about the transition? what kind of shitty friend lets other people break the 'bad' news? so i met up w/this friend for drinks and drop the bomb. it was like breaking up with someone... actually, as another friend put it, its almost worse than breaking up with someone, since the other person doesnt really have a stance with respect to the decision. its not like my friend could just get me drunk, reminisce about the good old days and poof... all is back to the status quo.

anyway, its not like i think this whole thing was a terrible thing or that im ranting about something... in fact, i find it somewhat humorous... like something that would happen in a shitty sitcom with canned laughter, and mainly posted to let the witty peanut gallery do its thing, so go at it.
