thanksreunion weekend
tuesday: so there are 2 large holes in my bedroom wall. apparently water is leaking from the upstairs apartment and the only way to fix it is to go through my ceiling. fantastic. so as a i leave for the airport, theres a guy ripping apart my, now dank and mold-scented, room. i cant wait to see what ill be coming home to on sunday... in st louis, jp and her bf, cb pick me up from the airport and we head to blue hill for dinner (its funny, ive been to blue hill a few times before for drinks, never knew it was a restaurant) they have to work tomorrow so its an early night.
wednesday: pretty low key day. meet up with kc for lunch. note: never get 'real' food at a bubble tea place. blegh. just get bubble tea. had dinner with jp and cb at this italian place that didnt seem so italiany (e.g. i had a roast beef sandwich). interesting bar crowd. m would like it, i think. kind of reminded me of bonner's. we try to go to a cupcake place but apparently it closed early for the holiday weekend. so instead we turn to mariokart 64 for some old school fun. i get my ass handed to me repeatedly, until jp got too drunk be a viable competitor. ill take a win any way i can.
thursday: its off to kc's place, since she originally offered to put me up for t-day. its amazing how little i remember of the neighborhood. while jp now lived in an area i didnt frequent in high school, kc lived like less than a mile from where i did. then again, a lot of the houses and like half of the stores in the neighborhood have changed, so that makes it even more confusing (the walgreens by my house moved half a block, i swear just to mess with me) anyway, i prep the fan favorite corn casserole, while kc makes pumpkin pie and her mom makes like 2 dozen things without breaking a sweat. how do moms do that?
friday: i wake up from a grease/tryptophan induced coma... (this part of the weekend is a bit fuzzy right now, i may fill in the details later -- oh right! i went theater hopping. watched 2 really bad movies...) at some point kc and i meet up with some of her washu friends who i vaguely recall meeting years before. needing a dd sucks. i dont understand how people who live in the suburbs do it. and whats with 1am last call? lame.
saturday: kc and i make it out the door in time to meet up with lh and gf (of the philly adventure's posted below) for lunch. its funny how i hadnt seen lh in like 4 years, and within the last month met up with her 3 times. after lunch kc and i do some research by reviewing our old high school yearbooks. its a good refresher course, but we also found people in our class that we never knew at all, even in passing, which was weird. we head to js's place - she recently had a baby (and uses that as an excuse not to go to the reunion... parents... lame!) so we stop by for a miniparty. its mostly her parents friends, but jp and cb are there so its like the four of us are at the kids table... without a table. kg, a fellow classmate, shows up, so we all get to do a dry run of stuff to talk about at the reunion with each other. surprisingly painless. we all head off to our respective houses to get ready for the reunion. we get to the reunion a little late, but relative to most people, we're early. i awkwardly smile at people i recognize as i walk in. kc and i look at each other. we need a drink. ah, much better. and the night was a blast from there. seriously. aside from one or two awkward conversations that died in silence, i had a pretty good time. talked to people who i havent seen/spoke to since high school, and even people i didnt talk to while in high school. only two people didnt recognize me, which was less than i predicted, one of whom even came up to me and asked if i was kc's significant other. and when i called her out on it started swearing at herself, which is a surprisingly good icebreaker. one bummer note: kc left her purse at an apt we stopped by after the reunion, but since neither of us were that close w/the people who lived there, we had to track them down on facebook and email them, hoping they would get it before she had to leave for the airport the next morning. luckily, everything was figured out by morning.
sunday: my 325 flight back to nyc has been moved up to 240. sweet. more downtime at home. delayed till 340. crap. delayed till 415. shit. delayed till 445. fuck. i finally get home at about 930, and to my surprise, the holes in my bedroom are gone. no more water leaks. just a lingering smell of damp mold, old water stains on the wall, and bits of drywall on the floor. surprisingly much better than expected.
that last line could sum up this whole weekend, actually...
